SkyBase simulates construction of the proposed International Space Station (ISS) by providing more than 40 actual design modules depicted through scientifically accurate multimedia. The ISS is a joint venture of the European Space Agency, Canadian Space Agency, National Space Development Agency of Japan, Russian Space Agency, and NASA. This software allows you to recreate the ISS following specific real life configurations, or build unlimited designs by mixing the modules.
The self-explanatory program sections include Go Inside, Station Builder, Launch Sites, ISS Introduction, Module Information, Launcher Information, ISS Handbook, Launch Sequences, Spacewalk, and Orbit Control. Mission control offers specific areas devoted to construction, thermal control, living conditions, life support, experiments, communications, navigation, robotic operations, hazards in space, and power. A full ISS glossary is provided for quick reference to space program terms.
Virtual tours of the space station are provided from both an internal and external perspective. At the time of the game's release, the ISS was scheduled for completion in the year 2003. As a source of information and visual aids regarding all aspects of the ISS, including launch sites, experiments and usage, and functions of all modules, SkyBase's well-designed presentation features excellent narration, as well as full-motion video of past space events.
