The developer that started the popular Deer Hunter franchise is at it again with Deer Hunter 3: The Legend Continues. Sunstorm Interactive's 3D hunting simulation is published by WizardWorks (GT Interactive Software's Leisure Division) and is the upgraded sequel to Deer Hunter II. The game was released as the first title in WizardWorks' "Outdoors" game line and along with the "WizardWorks Outdoors Virtual Hunting Club."
You will carry a powerful cache of firearms and gear as you travel expansive fields, forests, bluffs and mountains of Utah and Missouri on the hunt. Go on an individual pre-season scouting trip (don't forget your GPS unit, you wouldn't want to get lost!) engage in a multi-player expedition with your on-line buddies, join a cooperative deer drive or compete in a timed tournament hunt. All hunting areas are created from United States Geological Survey (USGS) terrain data and the landscapes depicted in the game based on their true environments. Accurate sounds, types and appearances of trees, birds and vegetation indigenous to the areas all work toward the goal of an immersive hunting experience.
Each hunting area is also complete with seasonal changes of the environments such as leaves falling from the trees, as well as the daily changes of the sun rising and setting. Other realistic environmental affects include fish swimming in lakes and rivers and animals roaming the hunting areas. During the game you will also have the opportunity to drive a truck, an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and a snowmobile.
The game features both Whitetail and Mule deer, quail, pheasant, woodcock, grouse, rabbit, squirrel and more (including bees and dragonflies). Your choice of firearms include 15 different rifles, shotguns, bows and muzzleloaders, and actual data from Federal Cartridge is incorporated into the game for greater realism.
The "WizardWorks Outdoors Virtual Hunting Club" was launched with direct market flyers inserted into the Deer Hunter 3: The Legend Continues boxes, as well as inserted into all WizardWorks "Outdoors" games. Consumers could become a member of the "Virtual Hunting Club" for $10 and receive a T-shirt; access to a members-only website with demos, cheat codes, guest interviews, bulletin board, quarterly newsletter; special offers on computer software and an official member window decal and ID card.
